ncmap-with-colorsDistrict 7690 lies in the piedmont region of North Carolina. It stretches from the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains down to the Sandhills of Pinehurst. The district includes the major metropolitan areas of Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High point.

  • Civil RightsInternational Civil Rights Center & Museumhttps://civilrightstrail.com/attraction/international-civil-rights-center-and-museum-woolworths/ The original Woolworth’s building has been rehabilitated and turned into the International Civil Rights Center & Museum. The museum’s mission is to commemorate the A&T Four and their role in launching the sit-in movement that inspired peaceful direct-action demonstrations across the country. The seats and counter remain in the building in their original footprint. The museum includes exhibits and videos about the A&T Four and the greater American Civil Rights Movement, and guided tours are available.
  • Mount AiryMayberryhttps://www.visitmayberry.com/ Fans of The Andy Griffith Show can step back to a simpler time when they visit Mount Airy. Actor Andy Griffith grew up here, and it’s no coincidence that a stroll down Main Street in the “Friendly City” reminds people of the town of Mayberry on the endearing popular ‘60s hit TV series, The Andy Griffith Show. Fans of the show can visit Floyd’s City Barber Shop, the Old Mayberry Jail, Snappy Lunch, and even Andy’s childhood home. You’ll be sure to relish the generous spirit of The Andy Griffith Show that you encounter wherever you go.
  • Pilot MountainPilot Mountainhttps://www.ncparks.gov/state-parks/pilot-mountain-state-park Located in Surry County and 20 miles northwest of Winston-Salem, Pilot Mountain State Park centers around the iconic geologic knob that serves as a beacon, inviting outdoor enthusiasts to a vast array of activities. The park offers the gamut, from hiking and horseback riding to rock climbing and camping, with accesses on both the rugged terrain of the monadnock and the Yadkin River. The Mountains-to-Sea State Trail also traverses both park sections.

This North Carolina town is home to many US and international furniture manufacturers. The High Point Furniture Market occurs twice a year, and attracts 160,000 people to the city.   • Hanging Rock State Parkhttps://www.ncparks.gov/state-parks/hanging-rock-state-park Located in Stokes County 30 miles north of Winston-Salem, Hanging Rock State Park started as a Civilian Conservation Corps project and has become a park that offers every part of a traditional outdoor experience. Trails lead to picturesque mountain views, rock outcrops, waterfalls, and even a mountain cave.
  • Lexington BBQhttps://www.visitnc.com/story/7oq3/plan-a-flavorful-lexington-barbecue-tour The Piedmont city of Lexington is best known for hickory-smoked pit-cooked barbecued pig shoulders and has been since the early 1900s. The pork is offered up finely or coarsely chopped or as slices – but never “pulled.” It’s typically served with “red” or “white” coleslaw and often as part of a sandwich tray or plate with hush puppies and more on the side. The famed Lexington-style sauce is generally made of vinegar, ketchup, sugar, salt and pepper.
