Arnold was born October 15, 1944 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

He graduated from Mineral Springs High School, Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1963.  He received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Wake Forest University in 1967.

Arnold served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970.

He is married to Kimberly Simser King.

He began his career with Pilot Freight Carriers in Winston-Salem in 1967.  After 20 years with Pilot, he became self-employed with several different businesses in Kernersville, North Carolina.  In 1997 he became president of AK Commercial Realty in Kernersville.

In the community, Arnold served as chairman of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Planning Board; president of the Kernersville Foundation; chairman of the Kernersville Economic Development Advisory Council; chairman of Kernersville 2020; and member of the Board of Trustees – Forsyth Technical Community College.

He has served as president of Kernersville Chamber of Commerce; chairman of the Piedmont Triad Chambers of Commerce; Chairman of Triad Leadership Network; Co-Chairman for Heart of the Triad Steering Committee; president of Piedmont Triad Sports Club; and president of Kernersville Downtown Preservation& Development Council.

Arnold is a member of the board of Kernersville Medical Center Foundation; board member of Piedmont Triad Partnership; board member of Piedmont Triad Partnership Foundation; and board member of Forsyth-Guilford Metropolitan Baseball Park Authority.

Arnold was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Kernersville in November 1987 and served as president in 1990-91.  He also served as club treasurer.  He has chaired the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy and Four-Way Test Committee.  He served as district governor in 1995-96 and was district chairman of The Rotary Foundation from 1997-2003.
