Al was born January 12, 1916 in Ohio.
He graduated from Ohio State University in 1939 with a degree in industrial engineering.
Following college he served in the South Pacific in World War II. He handled the communications for General MacArthur in the Philippines. He left the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel.
He was married to Elinor M. Ankrom and they had two daughters.
Al moved to Sanford, North Carolina in 1971. He began his career traveling with Armstrong Corporation. He retired in 1978 as president of Servtex plastic company in Sanford. After he sold the company, he formed Mac’s Business Machines, Inc. in Sanford.
He served as chairman of the Sanford Chamber of Commerce and as chairman of the Lee County Enrichment Center.
He was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Sanford.
He joined the Rotary Club of Sanford in 1975 and served as president in 1983-84. He served as district chairman of the Boy’s Home Committee.
He died in Sanford on March 15, 1996 at the age of 80.
