Phil Morris
District Governor Phil Morris 2005-2006

Phil Morris was invited to join the Rotary Club of Furnitureland in 1978 to fill the classification of Public Library Administration. He was asked to edit his club’s newsletter in 1979 and to launch its website, www.FurniturelandRotary.org in 1998. He was elected club president for 1999-2000. He and his wife Karen, have served on several District Conference committees. Phil was appointed as Assistant Governor for the Greater High Point area in 2001-2002 and again in 2002-2003.

In 1987 he organized the first District 7690 Club Bulletin Exchange, a project that has evolved into the formation of the District Club Bulletin Committee. In 1999 he developed the district’s website, www.Rotary7690.org, which was recognized at the RI Convention in San Antonio as the best website in Zone 33 for 2001. He manages the District’s e-mail network. In 2001 he was asked to develop a website for Rotary Fellowships. The website www.RotaryFellowships.org, was recognized by Rotary International as a significant resource for the Rotary Fellowships program. He maintained the website until Rotary International resumed web support for the Fellowships program.

Phil was the charter chairman of the International Fellowship of Rotarian Editors and Publishers (IFREP).

Phil was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He attended Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri and received his Masters of Library Science from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. He returned to Central Methodist College as Director of Libraries. He also served on the staff of the High Point Public Library. He served for many years on the executive committee of the High Point Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership:High Point program. His wife, Karen, is a charter member of the Oak Hollow Rotary Club in High Point, serving as club president in 2004-2005. They are Paul Harris Fellows, and charter members of the Rotary Foundation’s Bequest Society. Their hobbies include travel and, apparently, Rotary!
