Phil Brown

Phil was born September 12, 1933 in Allentown, New Jersey.

He graduated from Upper Freehold Township in Allentown, New Jersey. He received his BA from Eastern University and his BD and ThM from Palmer Seminary. He also received an MA at University of Texas.

He married Carol Punchard Brown and they have two children.

Phil began his career in 1958 as a minister at Wesley United Methodist Church, Pleasantville, New Jersey followed by six years at West Grove United Methodist Church, Neptune, New Jersey. From 1966-68, he was Executive Director at Meth-Wick Manor, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

After several brief assignments, he became Executive Director of Penick Village in Southern Pines and served there from 1971 to 2001.

After retirement in 2001, he became minister at Bethel Locust Hill Charge, United Methodist Church until 2007 when he became minister at Vass United Methodist Church, Vass, North Carolina.

Phil served as president of the Southern Pines Arts Council, Southern Pines Housing Authority, and South Eastern Jurisdiction of United Methodist Church, Older Adult Association.

He served as treasurer of the National Association of Long Term Care Licensing Boards from 1988 to 2002. He served as chairman of the North Carolina Board of Nursing Home Administrators, and officer in the North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association. In 2002, he was appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging. He also served as founding member of the North Carolina Partnership on Fraud and Abuse of Older Adults

Phil joined the Rotary Club of Southern Pines  and served as president. He was district governor in 1985-86.
